10, 5:00-6:30pm ET | Dance On OAC Cohort Orientation (on Zoom) You can expect to spend additional time (though limited) throughout the year on any necessary communication and/or coordination between you, other members of the Cohort, and the Dance Exchange staff. What’s outlined below totals approximately 50 hours between October 2023 to June 2024. Cohort members are also encouraged to connect with each other outside of official program sessions to share additional learning, reflective and creative time together. Members receive free access to several creative professional development opportunities as well as paid professional experience at the culmination of the Dance On OAC Cohort: ]Members of the Cohort receive the opportunity to participate in a mentored workforce development program in the field of creative aging. What do the members of Dance Exchange’s Dance On OAC Cohort receive? What are the criteria for Cohort member selection?Ĭohort members are assessed on their knowledge, skills, questions, and lived experiences related to creative aging, aging, and/or the arts.īecause the Dance On OAC Cohort is generously funded by a City of Takoma Park Community Quality of Life Grant, four of the selected artists will be individuals living in Takoma Park, Maryland.Īdditionally, two of the selected artists will be individuals making 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Montgomery County.

We invite you to take an active role in shaping your experience. These roles will be dynamic, overlapping, and evolving. Throughout their experience, Cohort members will take on multiple roles, including but not limited to participant and learner, co-facilitator, collaborative dancemaker, community organizer, and more.

Four of the selected artists will be individuals living and/or working in Takoma Park, Maryland. Who participates in Dance Exchange’s Dance On OAC Cohort and what role do they play?ĭance Exchange’s Dance On OAC Cohort is made up of a team of six artists who will work closely with Dance Exchange artists and staff from October 2023 through June 2024. By providing opportunities for professional development and collaborative facilitation, the Cohort program is an investment in artists as leaders at the intersection of aging and the arts. The Cohort program supports artists currently working with or interested in working with adults across the aging spectrum. They will continue to reprise works from this time.What is Dance Exchange’s Dance On OAC Cohort?ĭance Exchange’s Dance On OAC Cohort is a paid creative workforce development program facilitated by Dance Exchange as part of our Dance On and Organizing with Artists for Change Programs. He says he plans to continue to train the dancers in the Graham technique, like Hochoy, because so many of their works and movement is tied to it. 'David - he really created an identity for this company, the aesthetic, the way the dancers move. 'As the process went on, I got hungrier and hungrier for it,' said Carter. It was not an easy decision, but he also realized this type of opportunity doesn't come along very often.

He says he had been at his last organization for 14 years, so he sat on the idea for a while. 'And so I made sure is this something I wanted, and as soon as I submitted the application, I knew I did.' 'I don't do anything without great intention,' said Carter. He met Hochoy and the dancers, and got a good feel for the company, but never pictured returning at the helm.Ī friend happened to see the job posting in Hochoy's retirement and urged him to apply. He wore many hats during that time in his career, and at one point, he was a guest at Dance Kaleidoscope to help stage a production of Sneaky Pete. Lauren Casey WRTV Carter's dance training began in the theater but he says he quickly fell in love with dance.įrom there, he danced with Giordano Dance Chicago in various roles, eventually taking over administrative duties as the Operations Manager.
